Delhi-NCR’s Phased LGV Registration Curbs Begin From 2027
Delhi-NCR is making rules to encourage cleaner goods vehicles.
These rules apply to new light goods vehicles, not automatically to vehicles already being used.
Delhi will begin the first restrictions in January 2027.
Other nearby districts will follow later.
The rules cover smaller and larger goods vehicles at different times.
Petrol and diesel vehicles will face the broadest restrictions, while CNG will also be restricted in Delhi and five nearby districts.
Officials say goods vehicles create relatively high pollution because they are used often and emit more particulate matter.
Electric options are available, but heavier electric goods vehicles and charging stations are still limited.
The Commission for Air Quality Management will phase in restrictions on new petrol, diesel and, in some areas, CNG LGV registrations from January 2027.
Delhi will stop registering new N1 LGVs of up to 3.5 tonnes using these fuels from January 1, 2027.
The five high-vehicle-density districts will apply N1 restrictions from July 2027 and N2 restrictions from July 2028.
In the rest of NCR, new petrol and diesel N1 registrations stop in 2028 and N2 registrations in 2029, while CNG remains allowed there.
The order targets new registrations only; existing LGVs remain subject to separate age, pollution, entry and operating rules.
