Mountaineers to Hoist Tricolour Atop 5,974-Metre Mount Kanamo
Some brave climbers in India want to do something special for Independence Day.
On August 15, four mountaineers will climb a very tall mountain called Mount Kanamo.
The mountain is almost 6,000 metres high, which is much taller than any building.
They will reach the top and proudly raise the Indian flag, called the Tricolour.
The climb is very hard because it is freezing cold and there is less air to breathe high up.
The team is doing this to celebrate their country and thank a school that has been helping people for 50 years.
They also want to encourage young people to be brave, work hard, and help others.
One of the climbers wants everyone to know about organ donation, which saves lives.
Their message is 'Climb for India, Live for Humanity.'
A four-member team — Vaibhav Aiwale, Balkrishna Jadhav, Amit Chavan and Karan Yadav — will hoist the Tricolour atop 5,974-metre Mount Kanamo in Himachal Pradesh on August 15, India's 79th Independence Day.
The expedition, flagged off at Hemalkasa by Dr Prakash Amte and Dr Mandakini Amte, carries the message 'Climb for India, Live for Humanity' and marks the golden jubilee year of Lok Biradari Ashram School.
Climbers will face sub-zero temperatures, low oxygen, strong winds, snowfall and moraines at high altitude.
The team holds an India Book of Records entry for hoisting garlands of 75 Tricolours on Mount Yunam, Mount Jo Jango and Kang Yatse; Aiwale has also scaled Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Elbrus.
Aiwale, an organ donor, called for wider organ-donation awareness, and Jadhav said the climb pays tribute to mountaineers lost in the Broad Peak avalanche this year.
