Andhra Pradesh Police SI Unfurls 100-Metre Tricolour Atop Mount Elbrus
A police officer in India did something very special to celebrate his country's birthday.
His name is V Venkateswara Rao, and he works for the Andhra Pradesh Police.
He has the rank of Sub-Inspector and is posted at the Eluru Rural Police Station.
To mark India's 80th Independence Day, he climbed Mount Elbrus, the tallest mountain in Europe.
Mount Elbrus is very high, about 5,642 metres, and stands in Russia.
He reached the top on a Saturday morning, around 8 am India time, despite very cold weather.
At the top, he unfolded a giant Indian flag that was almost 100 metres long and sang India's National Anthem.
He said his climb was to honour police officers who died while doing their jobs.
Officials congratulated him and said he would inspire young people.
Now he is getting ready for an even bigger challenge: Mount Everest, the tallest mountain in the world.
Sub-Inspector V Venkateswara Rao of Eluru Rural Police Station scaled Mount Elbrus, Europe's highest peak at 5,642 metres in Russia.
He reached the summit at around 8 am IST on Saturday and unfurled a nearly 100-metre-long Indian Tricolour.
Rao sang the National Anthem at the summit to mark India's 80th Independence Day.
He dedicated his achievement to police personnel who lost their lives in the line of duty.
Officials praised his feat, and Rao, an avid mountaineer, is now preparing for his next challenge, Mount Everest.
