Indian Mother Shivani Mehrotra Scales Mount Elbrus, Eyes Everest
Shivani Mehrotra is a 43-year-old Indian mother who enjoys climbing mountains.
On August 15, she reached the top of Mount Elbrus in Russia and raised the Indian flag.
The climb was difficult because it was cold, windy, snowy and dark.
The air also had less oxygen, making movement harder.
Before the final climb, her team practised at several lower heights.
Shivani repeated, “You cannot stop, you have to keep walking.”
She balances climbing with caring for her family and teaching yoga.
She now hopes to climb Mount Everest and complete the Seven Summits.
Shivani Mehrotra, 43, reached Mount Elbrus’s summit in Russia on August 15 and unfurled the Indian Tricolour.
Her 10-day expedition from Mumbai included acclimatisation climbs to approximately 3,000, 4,000 and 4,700 metres.
The summit push began around 2 a.m. and took about four and a half hours in severe weather, darkness and low oxygen.
Mehrotra balances mountaineering with family responsibilities, yoga teaching, fitness training and ultra-running.
She aims to climb higher peaks in Nepal, Mount Everest and eventually complete the Seven Summits.
