Jakarta Award Supports Push for Cleaner, Greener Neighbourhoods
Jakarta’s provincial government says its Benyamin S Award will support efforts to make the city cleaner and greener.
The award recognises neighbourhoods that bring about lasting improvements.
It is linked to Indonesia ASRI, a national movement proposed by President Prabowo Subianto.
ASRI stands for safe, healthy, clean and beautiful.
Prabowo has said he hopes the effort can begin in Jakarta and help make it a green city with more parks.
The Jakarta programme encourages neighbourhoods to improve their surroundings and residents’ well-being.
Ten neighbourhoods are finalists and will give presentations before the award event on October 30.
Jakarta’s Benyamin S Award is being used to support the city’s push to become greener and cleaner under the Indonesia ASRI movement.
The movement’s name stands for Safe, Healthy, Clean and Beautiful Indonesia.
Jakarta Governor’s special staff member Nirwono Joga said the effort would be carried out gradually and could inspire other Indonesian cities.
Ten Jakarta neighbourhoods have reached the award’s final round and will make presentations in the final assessment.
The award event is due to conclude on October 30.

President Prabowo Subianto announced the Indonesia ASRI movement while inaugurating the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai LRT.
Nirwono Joga spoke about the Benyamin S Award at the Jalan Jaksa Festival in Central Jakarta.
The Benyamin S Award event is due to conclude with its main event.
