Indonesia Defines BRAN’s Role to Avoid Overlap With Land Ministry
Indonesia is refining the structure and duties of its newly formed National Agrarian Reform Agency, known as BRAN.
Officials discussed the agency at a meeting on October 9, including how it should work with the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning, also known as ATR/BPN.
BRAN was created under the Agrarian Reform Regulation Law.
Its role includes helping resolve legal deadlocks in agrarian conflicts.
It may also plan reforms, set a roadmap and priority areas, and verify people and land involved in conflicts.
The government wants clear responsibilities so the agency and ministry do not duplicate each other’s work.
Officials are continuing to work out BRAN’s organization, staffing and coordination arrangements.
