Verstappen wins rain-delayed Singapore Sprint after Russell crashes
Max Verstappen of Red Bull won the Formula 1 Sprint at Singapore’s Marina Bay circuit.
Heavy rain delayed the start by 30 minutes, and conditions remained mixed, with parts of the track wet and others dry.
Mercedes driver George Russell took the lead at the start but lost control at the final corner on the opening lap and crashed.
Verstappen then held the lead, while Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc finished second and third.
On the final lap, McLaren team-mates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri collided as Norris tried to pass, leaving Piastri out of the race and Norris in eighth.
Russell’s retirement helped his Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli extend his lead in the drivers’ championship, though the reported gap differs.
