McLaren tells Norris and Piastri to put team first after Singapore crash
McLaren teammates Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri crashed on the final lap of the Formula 1 sprint race in Singapore.
Norris tried to pass Piastri for fourth place, and their cars touched wheels.
Piastri spun into the wall and retired, while Norris finished eighth and scored one point.
The stewards called it a racing incident and did not penalize Norris, saying both drivers contributed.
McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said the collision was unacceptable and that the team must come before individual drivers.
The lost places and points matter because McLaren is competing with other teams in the constructors’ championship.
Norris apologized to the team, but Stella said further discussion should focus on how the drivers can work together and avoid another collision.
The drivers qualified fifth and seventh for Sunday’s main race, with Norris ahead of Piastri.

The drivers made contact on the final lap while fighting for fourth place, sending Piastri out of the race and leaving Norris eighth.
McLaren scored one point instead of nine, according to AP.
Norris apologised to the team but defended his attempt to pass, while Stella said apologies were not the main issue.

Norris apologised to the team but said the incident should be reviewed.
We have reminded our drivers that the interests of the team must always come first, and that did not happen today.
I want the drivers to take the perspective, and the reflection around this, in how together we are going to pursue, protect, and promote the interest of the team.
Sorry about that. Obviously, I didn't want that to happen, but I thought I was fully alongside. I just ran out of space at the apex, but I was there.
From where I sit, it's for fourth and fifth for a sprint race, so I'm not that bothered either way.
