Storms kill a woman in Guerrero and a girl in Baja California

Hurricane Simon and tropical storm Rachel brought heavy rain and damage to parts of Mexico’s Pacific coast.

In Chilpancingo, Guerrero, a 71-year-old woman died when a wall collapsed.

In Baja California, a girl was found dead; authorities also reported 10 people missing in Ensenada and two in San Felipe.

Acapulco and other parts of Guerrero had flooded shops, damaged homes and affected vehicles.

Colima reported damage to homes, businesses, roads, schools and medical facilities, but no deaths or injuries; Michoacan and Jalisco also reported no deaths.

Authorities said Simon was expected to reach Mazatlan, Sinaloa, as a Category 1 hurricane, and activated emergency response plans.

Officials urged people along the Pacific coast to follow updates from civil protection authorities.
