Sheinbaum seeks agreement with platforms to restrict violent content

Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum says digital platforms have a responsibility to stop promoting violent content.

She said the government will meet platform representatives on Tuesday and Wednesday to discuss possible rules and hopes to reach an agreement.

She argued that young people should not have unrestricted access to violence, sexual abuse and other unsuitable material online.

Sheinbaum also said families have a role in what young people view, and that the government is supporting families with emotional education guides.

She said education is the best tool against violence and highlighted plans to build more high schools and universities.

The discussions with platforms are the next step, but Sheinbaum did not say what rules might be agreed.
