Pertamina backs community waste bank in Mandalika village

Pertamina is supporting the Putri Nyale waste bank in Kuta village, in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The community-run service helps residents sort and process waste in the Mandalika tourism area.

Non-organic waste can be turned into products for sale, while organic waste can be made into fertilizer.

The bank opened in 2022 because the village lacked adequate facilities for sorting and processing waste.

It stopped operating in 2023 because of water supply problems and limited facilities, then resumed with support from different groups.

Pertamina has provided an electric three-wheeled vehicle and a large waste container, helping the bank collect more waste across Kuta’s 20 hamlets.

Demand for collection and sorting has risen as local activity increases, including during the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix.
