Indonesia Plans Stablecoin Rules by Early 2027

Indonesia’s Financial Services Authority, known as OJK, is preparing rules for stablecoins, a type of digital asset used for transactions.

OJK expects to set the direction for the rules by around January 2027.

The planned rules will cover reserves, governance, consumer protection and how users can redeem stablecoins.

OJK says the rules must also protect the Indonesian rupiah and financial stability.

Stablecoins are one of three digital asset products emerging from OJK’s regulatory sandbox, alongside tokenization and real-world assets.

OJK is coordinating with Bank Indonesia on digital asset developments and ways to reduce risks.

Businesses in Indonesia’s crypto and decentralized finance sectors must be licensed by OJK, and unlicensed operators may face sanctions.
