Indonesia Seeks Local Support to Tighten Hajj and Umrah Services
Indonesia’s interior minister, Muhammad Tito Karnavian, has asked local governments to help improve Hajj and Umrah services.
He spoke after signing a joint circular in Jakarta with the ministries responsible for Hajj and health.
The plan uses national population records to check pilgrims’ details.
Officials hope this will prevent fraud linked to long Hajj waiting times, including duplicate registrations or using another person’s name.
More than 98% of Indonesia’s population, which exceeds 290 million, is recorded in the Interior Ministry’s database, according to Tito.
The government also plans to standardize fees for pilgrims’ health checks and vaccinations so prices do not vary between regions.
Local leaders are expected to work with regional offices of the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah to make the changes.
