Maharashtra SIR Leaves Over Two Crore Voter Forms Uncollected
Election officials in Maharashtra are checking the voter list by visiting people’s homes.
They could not collect forms from more than two crore voters, or more than 20 million people.
Officials say these voters may have moved, died, been absent, or appeared more than once on the list.
Many of the uncollected forms came from large cities such as Mumbai, Thane and Pune.
Rohit Pawar, a political leader, says the checking process may have left out eligible voters.
He also alleged that some officers faced pressure and that political workers supplied information in certain places.
Officials say voters who are missing from the draft list can apply to be added using Form 6.
People can check the draft list on August 24, 2026, and submit claims or objections before the final list is published on October 27.
More than 2.07 crore voter enumeration forms remained uncollected during Maharashtra's Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls.
Officials attributed the cases to voters being absent, permanently shifted, deceased, duplicated or otherwise unverified.
Thane, Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban and Pune together accounted for 94.47 lakh uncollected forms, or about 45.4 per cent of the state total.
NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar questioned the exclusion process and alleged pressure on booth-level officers and the use of informal surveys.
The draft roll is scheduled for August 24, 2026, with claims and objections accepted until September 23 and the final roll due October 27.
