Thane Voter Exclusion Risk As Only 53.31% Forms Digitised

Election officials in a district called Thane are updating the list of people who can vote.

They have to collect special forms from every voter to make sure the list is correct.

So far, they have finished checking only about half of the forms.

That means almost nine lakh people might be left off the voting list if they do not send in their forms.

The officials say everyone must submit their forms by August 17.

Some people have not given their forms because they moved to Thane from other states like Bihar and Rajasthan.

They may still be listed as voters in their old villages, which makes things confusing.

The officials also found over 93,000 duplicate names on the list that need to be removed.

They are asking political parties to help remind people to complete their forms so nobody loses the right to vote.
