India wants to build a bigger semiconductor industry.

Semiconductors are tiny parts used to make many electronic devices.

Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the basic foundation has already been created.

A new plan called Semicon 2.0 will support six areas of the industry.

These include designing chips, making equipment and materials, building factories, packaging chips, conducting research, and training people.

The government wants these activities to happen inside India.

The plan can support projects for up to six years and will first accept applications for three years.

Officials say strong participation in SEMICON India 2026 shows international confidence in India’s semiconductor plans.
