Modi Unveils India’s Semiconductor Push Amid Global Supply Risks
India is trying to become an important country for making computer chips.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said Indian chips should be sold around the world.
He said better roads, rail freight routes and technology are helping factories grow.
He also said the world needs dependable places to make chips because supply chains face risks.
India is training engineers and building facilities for chip design, manufacturing and packaging.
More than 70,000 engineering students have already been trained for this industry.
The SEMICON India event brings together companies, researchers, students and government officials.
The three-day event is taking place in New Delhi from September 17 to 19.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India’s semiconductor industry is gaining momentum and that Indian chips will eventually reach global markets.
He said India is preparing to become a reliable manufacturing hub as semiconductor supply chains face challenges and disruptions.
Around 3,000 kilometres of dedicated freight corridors became operational, which Modi said would improve logistics and strengthen manufacturing.
Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said Semicon 2.0 will focus on chip design, equipment and materials, fabs, advanced packaging, research and development, and talent.
SEMICON India 2026 is being held from September 17 to 19 in New Delhi, with more than 600 exhibitors and delegations from over 50 countries.
