SEMICON India 2026 Showcases India’s Push for Resilient Chip Ecosystem
India is holding a large event about building computer chips.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will open it in New Delhi from September 17 to 19, 2026.
The government wants India to do more than assemble chips.
It wants companies in India to design chips, make wafers, build equipment and create advanced packages.
A new programme called Semicon 2.0 will provide financial support to eligible projects.
Smaller companies and startups can also receive funding for chip designs and research.
More than 600 exhibitors from India and other countries are expected to attend.
The goal is to create a stronger chip supply chain that supports cars, phones, artificial intelligence, defence and other industries.

The Rs 1.27 lakh crore Semicon 2.0 programme aims to expand India’s capabilities from chip assembly to design, fabrication, packaging, equipment, materials and research.
Large silicon-fab projects must use 300-mm wafers, produce at least 40,000 wafer starts monthly and involve minimum investment of Rs 20,000 crore.
Semicon 2.0 offers incentives for specialised fabs, advanced packaging, equipment, materials, chip-design startups and semiconductor research.
The event is expected to feature more than 600 exhibitors, 150 speakers, six country pavilions and 12 state-government pavilions.
