Assam floods: death toll reaches 95 as fresh areas inundated
Heavy rain has made many rivers overflow, causing big floods in a state in India called Assam.
The water has covered villages, fields and roads.
Sadly, at least 95 people have lost their lives because of the floods.
New places are getting flooded every day as rivers keep rising.
Some big dams in nearby places released extra water, which made the flooding worse.
The chief minister of Assam and a minister from India's national government visited the flooded areas to see the damage.
They rode on a tractor to reach one village that was cut off.
The national government promised to send more help, including for a neighboring state called Nagaland where nine people died.
Many helpers are clearing mud, fixing houses and cleaning up.
Everyone is working together to help families stay safe and get what they need.
At least 95 people have died in Assam's ongoing floods as of Wednesday, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority.
Fresh villages in Darrang, Nagaon, Biswanath and Udalguri districts were inundated as rivers swelled and an embankment breached in Outola panchayat.
Water releases from Bhutan's Kurichhu Hydroelectric Project and Nagaland's Doyang Hydro Electric Project triggered emergency advisories in Bongaigaon and Golaghat districts.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda visited flood-hit Sivasagar and Charaideo districts and attended a review meeting in Dibrugarh.
Nadda also visited Mon district in Nagaland, where nine people died in floods and landslides, and promised all possible central assistance.
