Assam floods: 99 dead including 18 children, Cachar worst-hit

Big rains caused rivers to overflow in a place called Assam, in India.

The water covered many villages, which is called a flood.

The flood was very dangerous, and sadly 99 people lost their lives.

Eighteen of the people who died were children.

Many families had to leave their homes and stay in special camps.

The leader of Assam, a man named Himanta Biswa Sarma, went to see the flooded areas.

He checked the river walls that had broken and caused the flooding.

He told families in the camps that the government would help them and fix the river walls to make them stronger.

Rescue and relief teams are still helping people across the state.
