Kamarajar Port Tenders ₹4,288-Crore Second Container Terminal
Kamarajar Port wants to build a new container terminal.
The project is expected to cost ₹4,288 crore.
A private company will help design, build, finance and operate it under a public-private partnership.
The terminal will be built in two stages.
Together, the stages will handle up to 2 million large containers each year.
The first stage will include 500 metres of quay, and the second will add another 400 metres.
The terminal will have cranes, storage areas, roads and customs facilities.
It is meant to handle increasing trade and container transfers between ships.
After 40 years, the terminal and its assets will be returned to Kamarajar Port.
Kamarajar Port Limited issued a tender for a ₹4,288-crore second container terminal under the PPP model.
The terminal will be developed on a DBFOT basis with a 40-year concession period.
The project will provide 2 million TEUs of annual capacity in two phases.
Construction will include a 900-metre quay designed for ships carrying up to 24,346 TEUs.
The terminal aims to meet rising EXIM and transshipment demand and strengthen Kamarajar Port’s container-handling role.
