Laxman Seeks Central Law Protecting Breastfeeding Mothers and Infants
Dr K. Laxman wants a new law to help mothers feed their babies in public safely and privately.
He said some workplaces already have rules about crèches.
However, mothers do not have the same guaranteed support in many public places.
These places include railway stations, airports, bus terminals, courts, universities, offices, and parks.
Laxman said the current rules and advisories are scattered.
He believes a single law would make support easier to enforce.
The law could require feeding rooms and child-care rooms.
It could also support human milk banks.
He asked the National Commission for Women to recommend the proposal to the central government.

He urged the Centre to enact a comprehensive law supporting breastfeeding mothers and infants.
Laxman said existing workplace crèche laws and schemes do not guarantee private, dignified breastfeeding in public places.
He called for feeding rooms, child-care rooms, and human milk banks in public institutions.
He proposed the “Mother and Child Care (Public Facilities, Breastfeeding Support and Human Milk Bank) Act.”
