AIIMS Bibinagar Experts Advocate Breastfeeding Support Through Postnatal Period
World Breastfeeding Week is a special week that celebrates and supports breastfeeding.
Doctors at AIIMS Bibinagar, a big hospital in Hyderabad, India, celebrated this week in 2026.
It lasted from August 1 to August 7.
The doctors said help with breastfeeding should start while a baby is still growing inside the mother.
It should continue after the baby is born and even after the family goes home from the hospital.
The hospital held poster and quiz competitions and workshops to teach mothers.
There were also essay and poetry contests and radio and video programmes.
Doctors say it is not just mothers who need to learn about breastfeeding.
Families, communities, health workers and students should all help.
When everyone works together, mothers feel supported and babies stay healthy.
AIIMS Bibinagar observed World Breastfeeding Week 2026 from August 1 to 7 with competitions, workshops and outreach programmes.
Experts said breastfeeding support must begin during pregnancy and continue through the postnatal period and after discharge.
Executive director Prof. Dr Amita Aggarwal stressed the need for coordinated support from healthcare professionals across several departments.
The institute held poster and quiz competitions, lactation workshops, essay and poetry contests, and video and radio programmes.
Awareness should extend beyond mothers to families, communities, healthcare workers and students to create an enabling environment.
