Trump Demands Iranian Reparations, Dimming Hopes for Hormuz Deal

Two countries, the United States and Iran, are in a big fight that started in February.

Because of the fighting, ships cannot easily use a very important waterway called the Strait of Hormuz, which many countries need to move oil and gas.

President Trump says Iran should pay money for all the people who have been hurt or died in wars, attacks and protests.

Iran says the United States should stop punishing it and end military threats before the waterway can reopen.

The two sides cannot agree, and each new demand makes peace harder.

When it looked like a deal might not happen, oil became more expensive and prices went up 5% in one day.

Iran is also talking with a country called Oman about new shipping lanes without the United States.

The U.S. military has tried strikes, but Iran still controls the waterway.

Many people want the fighting to end because fuel prices are high, and U.S. elections are coming in November.
