Think of New Delhi as a big city with many roads that need to be cleaned and repaired.

For a long time, one group called the CPWD took care of some special roads in the central area.

Now, a new order says another group called the NDMC will take care of those roads instead.

This is like switching which team looks after the main hallways of a school.

The order was signed on August 7 by the housing and urban affairs ministry.

Roads like Janpath, Rafi Marg and Man Singh Road are now the NDMC's job.

But Kartavya Path, the special parade road, will still be looked after by the CPWD.

The NDMC already handles pipes, lights and drainage in the area, so this keeps things in one place.

The council already looks after about 1,280 lane-kilometres of roads elsewhere in the city.
