Cabinet Approves Third, Fourth Rail Lines Between Gummidipoondi and Gudur
The Union Cabinet approved two more railway lines between Gummidipoondi and Gudur.
These lines will add space for more trains to travel.
The project will cover 90 kilometres.
It is expected to cost ₹2,229 crore and take four years to complete.
The extra tracks should help reduce train traffic and delays.
The work will include a large bridge over the Swarnamukhi River and many other bridges.
More railway capacity will also help move goods such as cement, containers and food grains.
Dr Maddila Gurumoorthy said the project could help businesses and the economies of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
The Union Cabinet approved construction of third and fourth railway lines between Gummidipoondi and Gudur.
The 90-kilometre project is estimated to cost ₹2,229 crore and is scheduled for completion in four years.
The additional lines are intended to ease congestion on the Chennai–Gudur–Renigunta corridor and improve passenger movement.
The project includes a 360-metre bridge over the Swarnamukhi River, 21 major bridges, 127 minor bridges and 34 road overbridges or underbridges.
Tirupati MP Dr Maddila Gurumoorthy said the project would increase freight capacity and support economic activity in Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
