New Rail Line Projects Proposed for Ongole-Guntur Connectivity
Some important people in India wanted to make it easier for people to travel by train between towns in a part of India called Andhra Pradesh.
A member of Parliament asked questions about new train tracks in the Parliament building.
The minister in charge of trains, Ashwini Vaishnaw, gave answers.
He said a new set of tracks, 287 kilometers long, is already being built to connect the towns of Ongole, Vijayawada and Gudur.
He also said plans are being made for even more tracks, like a very long line of 782 kilometers.
Some lines are still being planned, and new tracks are only approved after careful study and talks with people involved.
The government is spending a lot more money on trains in Andhra Pradesh than it used to.
Long ago, it spent about 886 crore rupees every year, but now it is spending over 10,000 crore rupees.
Many train projects are being built right now, and some have just been finished.
This means people in the area will have better train travel in the future.
Ongole MP Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy sought details in Parliament on new, proposed and ongoing railway projects for the Ongole-Guntur section and neighbouring districts.
Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said a 287-km third line is being constructed to strengthen connectivity between Ongole, Vijayawada and Gudur.
A final survey was sanctioned for the proposed 87-km Ongole-Dornakonda new line, and a project report was prepared for the 782-km Balharshah-Tenali-Ongole-Guntur fourth line.
Work on the 309-km Nadikudi-Srikalahasti new line is progressing, with over Rs 2,384 crore spent against its estimated cost of Rs 3,407 crore.
Railway spending in Andhra Pradesh rose from an annual average of Rs 886 crore during 2009-24 to Rs 10,134 crore in 2026-27, with 12 new-line and 30 doubling projects covering 4,768 km under construction as of April 1, 2026.
