Telangana Electorate May Shrink by Over 73 Lakh After SIR
In a place called Telangana, grown-ups keep a list of everyone who is allowed to vote.
People who check this list found that lots of voters on it could not be found.
Some had moved to other towns, some had sadly passed away, and some could not be traced.
When a person moves away or passes away, they should not stay on the voting list.
Because of this, the list might get smaller by more than 73 lakh people.
That is more than the number of people in a very big city!
The people in charge will show the new list to everyone on August 17.
If someone's name is missing by mistake, they can ask to fix it.
The final list will be ready on October 19.
A Special Intensive Revision found 73.39 lakh (21.70%) of Telangana's voter Enumeration Forms 'uncollectable', potentially shrinking the electorate.
Of Telangana's 3.38 crore total voters, 2.64 crore (78.30%) had their Enumeration Forms digitised.
Uncollectable forms include 45,18,961 permanently shifted voters, 11,25,546 absent or untraceable, 9,22,230 dead, 6,70,203 already enrolled, and 1,02,294 others.
Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy announced the figures in a statement on Tuesday.
The draft electoral roll will be published on August 17, with the final electoral roll due on October 19.
