Over 73 lakh voters in Telangana face deletion in revision
An election is when people get to choose their leaders.
Before an election, a country keeps a big list of everyone who is allowed to vote.
In Telangana, a state in India, officials checked that list very carefully.
They found many names that should not be there.
Some people on the list had passed away, and others had moved to different places.
Some names were written twice, and some people could not be found at all.
So officials removed over 73 lakh names from the list.
People who think their name was removed by mistake can complain and ask to have it added back between August 17 and September 16.
The final voting list will be published on October 19.
The Election Commission of India deleted 73,39,334 voter records in Telangana during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise.
Only 78.3 per cent of the state's 3,38,26,448 voters had their records digitized.
Deleted entries included about 9.22 lakh deceased voters, 6.70 lakh duplicate entries, 11.25 lakh untraceable voters and roughly 45 lakh shifted voters.
Hyderabad district recorded the highest deletions at approximately 19.40 lakh, followed by Medchal district with 10.73 lakh.
Draft rolls will be published on August 17, claims and objections run until September 16, and final electoral rolls on October 19.
