Telangana SIR Drive: 45.2 Lakh Voters Marked Permanently Shifted
A voter list is a list of people who are allowed to vote in elections.
The state of Telangana in India recently checked its voter list to make sure it was correct.
This check is called a special intensive revision of the electoral roll.
Officials found that forms for more than 45 lakh voters could not be collected at their registered addresses.
They marked those voters as permanently shifted, meaning they believe these people moved away.
In total, more than 73 lakh forms could not be collected.
Some of these voters were recorded as absent or untraceable.
Others were marked as linked to deaths, meaning they had passed away.
Cleaning up the list helps make sure that only eligible people vote.
Nearly 45.2 lakh electors in Telangana were marked as permanently shifted during the enumeration phase of the special intensive revision (SIR) of the electoral roll.
The permanently shifted forms account for more than three-fifths of the 73.39 lakh enumeration forms classified as uncollectable.
Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudharsan Reddy said the state has 3,38,26,448 electors.
Enumeration forms for 2,64,87,214 electors (78.30 per cent) have been digitised, while forms for 73,39,234 electors (21.70 per cent) were uncollectable.
Among uncollectable forms, 11,25,546 were absent or untraceable, 9,22,230 were linked to deaths, and 6,70,203 were categorised as already enrolled.
