Tata Sons Chairman N Chandrasekaran Steps Down After 40 Years
Mr. Chandrasekaran is the leader of a very big group of Indian companies called Tata.
For the past few years, he has been the chairman of Tata Sons, the company that runs the Tata Group.
He has now told the company that he is stepping down, which means he will be leaving his job.
He will keep working until February 2027, when his time in charge officially ends.
He grew up on a farm in a village in Tamil Nadu, a state in India, and as a boy walked more than 3 km to reach his village school.
He studied computer science at two colleges and then, in 1987, started working at Tata Consultancy Services, a technology company.
He worked there for about 30 years and eventually became its top boss.
During his time as chairman, Tata bought an airline called Air India and started making new things like computer chips and batteries.
Because of his hard work, Mr. Chandrasekaran has received many awards.
N Chandrasekaran submitted his resignation as Chairman of Tata Sons on August 12, 2026, and will not seek reappointment.
He will continue as Chairman until his current term ends on February 20, 2027; his resignation comes ahead of the Tata Sons AGM scheduled for August 18.
Appointed Chairman in January 2017, he was the first person outside the Tata family to head the holding company.
Under his leadership, Tata Group expanded into semiconductors, electronics manufacturing, consumer internet, mobile technology, battery manufacturing, and re-entered aviation through Air India.
He joined Tata Consultancy Services in 1987, served as its CEO & MD from 2009 to 2017, and studied at the Coimbatore Institute of Technology and NIT Trichy.
