Car Sales Aug'26: Tata Leads Growth, Maruti Dominates Volume
In August 2026, Maruti Suzuki sold the most cars in India with over 1.76 lakh units, but Tata Motors grew the fastest with a 59% increase compared to last year.
Mahindra also did well with a 50% growth, mostly selling SUVs.
While Maruti sold nearly three times more cars than its competitors, Tata was the only one to sell more cars in August than in July.
As the festive season approaches, these companies will try to keep up their sales.
Maruti Suzuki sold 1,76,971 units in August 2026, a 34.8% year-on-year growth but a 9.8% month-on-month decline.
Tata Motors reported 65,253 units sold, with a 59% year-on-year growth and a 4.22% month-on-month increase.
Mahindra sold 59,257 units, achieving a 50% year-on-year growth but a 1.32% month-on-month decline.
Maruti Suzuki remains the market leader by volume, while Tata Motors leads in growth rate.
Mahindra continues to see strong demand for its SUV lineup, including electric offerings.
