Himachal govt plans to cut IAS, IFS, IPS officer numbers

The state of Himachal Pradesh in India wants to have fewer top government workers, called officers.

These officers help run the state, including its general administration, forests, and police.

The state says it spends too much money paying for these officers.

Each officer costs about 40 to 50 lakh rupees every year.

So the state wants to reduce the number of some of them.

For example, it plans to have 23 fewer administration officers and 35 fewer forest officers.

The state has not said yet how many police officers it will cut.

The Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, says the government does not want an army of officers but wants officers who really do their jobs well.

The plan will now be sent to the central government of India for approval.
