UPSC Hindi-medium candidates for IAS, IPS: 5 in 2024
In India, there is a very important test called the Civil Services Examination.
People who pass it can become top government officers.
Some officers join the IAS, and others join the IPS.
People can take this test in Hindi or other Indian languages.
A government minister shared numbers about Hindi-medium candidates.
In 2021, only 10 Hindi and Maithili candidates were chosen.
The number went up to 27 in 2022.
But it fell to 14 in 2023 and then to just five in 2024.
That means very few regional-language candidates got these top jobs.
The information was shared in the Rajya Sabha, which is part of India's Parliament.
In 2024, only five candidates who wrote the UPSC CSE Main in Hindi or Maithili were recommended for IAS and IPS.
The recommended figure rose from 10 in 2021 to 27 in 2022, then declined to 14 in 2023.
The government shared the data in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha.
Minister of State Jitendra Singh answered a question by MP Sanjay Yadav on regional-language CSE candidates.
The numbers cover candidates who wrote the Main exam in Hindi and other Eighth Schedule languages and were recommended for IAS and IPS.
