Meat shops closed, security tightened for Kanwar Yatra 2026

The Kanwar Yatra is a big religious event where people walk long distances to collect water from the Ganga River and offer it to Lord Shiva.

This year, from July 30 to August 11, over 4 crore devotees are expected to participate.

In Muzaffarnagar, meat shops along the route will be closed to respect the religious sentiments of the devotees, but liquor stores will remain open with some restrictions.

The government has taken many steps to ensure the safety and comfort of the pilgrims.

They have made the roads smooth, set up medical teams, and increased security with lots of police and cameras.
