Many people called kanwariyas walk for hundreds of kilometres to collect water from the Ganga river in Haridwar.

They carry the water back home to offer at their temples.

This special journey is called the Kanwar Yatra.

During this time, local leaders asked shopkeepers along the route not to sell non-vegetarian food.

Some shopkeepers in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, sold chicken biryani anyway.

Police found out and raided their shops.

They took four people into custody and pulled down part of one shop.

The shopkeepers had already been told about the rule.

Police warned that breaking the rule again would lead to more serious legal action.
