Shahjahanpur police deploy 1,400 personnel along Kanwar route

Every year, many people in India go on a special walking trip called the Kanwar Yatra.

They walk to collect holy water and carry it to temples of Lord Shiva.

This year, the walk is happening in a district called Shahjahanpur.

Last Wednesday, a tractor hit a group of people who were walking, and sadly two people were killed.

The police wanted to keep everyone safe, so they sent about 1,400 police officers to watch the 90-kilometre route.

They also put up 500 barriers and 100 cameras along the way.

One side of a big highway was kept just for the people walking with their holy water.

The police set up special camps where walkers and drivers can learn the safety rules.

They even gave the officers reflective jackets and torches so they can be seen in the dark.

The walking trip will continue until August 28, and the police will stay on the route until the end of the month to help everyone get home safely.
