Yogi Adityanath showers flower petals on Kanwariyas in Meerut
Every year in India, many people go on a special journey called the Kanwar Yatra.
They walk to the Ganga river in a city called Haridwar to collect holy water.
They carry this water back to offer it at temples of Lord Shiva, which is called a 'jalabhishek'.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Yogi Adityanath, welcomed these travelers in the city of Meerut.
He stood on a special stage and threw flower petals on them as they passed by.
He said that lakhs of people, meaning hundreds of thousands, were taking part in the pilgrimage.
The journey started on July 30 and will end on August 11.
Police and security teams watched over the route to keep everyone safe.
There were also medical camps, drinking water and rest places along the way.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, along with BJP leaders, showered rose petals on Kanwar pilgrims from a platform near the Dulhera police outpost in Modipuram, Meerut.
Adityanath said devotees of Lord Shiv are heading to their destinations after collecting holy water from Haridwar to perform 'jalabhishek' at sacred Shiva temples.
The Kanwar Yatra began on July 30 with the start of the holy month of Shravan and will culminate on August 11 with Sawan Shivratri.
LIU, anti-sabotage teams and bomb disposal squads continuously inspected the area, with additional security forces deployed along the Kanwar route.
Medical camps, drinking water, rest areas and sanitation were arranged along the route, with drone cameras monitoring movement from Modipuram to Roorkee Road.
