Monsoon Revives, Narrowing India's Rainfall Deficit and Boosting Kharif Sowing

Every year, India gets most of its rain during a season called the monsoon.

This year the monsoon started slowly, and by June India had a rainfall shortage of 38%.

Farmers were worried because their crops need rain to grow.

But in July, many rain storms called low-pressure systems formed and moved across India.

July ended with a little extra rain than normal for the whole country.

This rain helped farmers plant more crops, including beans, soyabean, cotton and sesamum.

The weather experts at the India Meteorological Department had predicted less rain, but the monsoon surprised them.

With the rain coming back, the overall rainfall shortage shrank to 11.5%.

This was good news for farmers, but they still need to keep an eye on the weather.
