Andhra Pradesh Revitalises Village Tanks for Irrigation and Rural Development
Andhra Pradesh is improving old village tanks so they can help people in more ways.
The tanks will store water for farms and help protect the environment.
They may also support drinking water needs and improve groundwater levels.
Workers are strengthening the tank banks and adding gates.
Some tanks will have solar lights, walking paths, gyms and children’s parks.
The project covers 105 tanks and costs ₹50 crore.
So far, 26 tanks have been improved.
Three completed tanks have already opened for people to use, and officials must finish the work by the end of September.
Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan launched an initiative to modernise village tanks across Andhra Pradesh.
Under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana, 105 tanks are being upgraded at a cost of ₹50 crore.
Twenty-six tanks have been revitalised in seven districts, including Anantapur, Palnadu, Chittoor, Kurnool, Nellore, Kakinada and Guntur.
The work includes stronger bunds, entry gates, solar lights, walking tracks, open-air gyms, benches and children’s parks.
Officials have been directed to complete the remaining works by the end of September, while three tanks have already opened to the public.
