Delhi's Wettest August Day in Two Years Brings Heavy Rain, Waterlogging
Delhi got a huge amount of rain on Saturday, August 8, with the Safdarjung Observatory measuring 98.7 mm of water falling in a single day.
That makes it the wettest August day Delhi has seen in two years.
The rain happened because the monsoon was very active over Delhi and nearby areas, bringing showers day after day instead of one short storm.
By Saturday, the city had already received 230.1 mm of rain in August, almost its entire normal monthly amount.
Some places got much more than others, with Pushp Vihar receiving 165 mm and Chhatarpur getting 138 mm.
All that water caused problems — streets flooded and traffic jams formed across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad.
Faridabad was hit especially hard, with more than 50 spots under water and part of a culvert on Surajkund Road caving in.
The weather forecasters at the IMD say the rain is not completely over, and very light to light showers could continue until August 14.
Temperatures are expected to stay relatively cool, with highs around 33-35°C and lows around 23-25°C.

The heaviest rainfall was recorded in Pushp Vihar (165 mm), Chhatarpur (138 mm), Ayanagar (115 mm), Palam (104.6 mm) and Najafgarh (103.5 mm).
Heavy rain caused waterlogging and traffic chaos in Delhi and across Noida, Ghaziabad, Gurugram and Faridabad, where more than 50 locations were waterlogged after 120 mm of rain.
The IMD forecast generally cloudy skies with possible very light to light rain through August 14, with maximum temperatures around 33-35°C and minimums between 23°C and 25°C.
