Delhi's Wettest August Day In Two Years Brings Waterlogging
Delhi received a lot of rain on Tuesday.
It was the city’s wettest August day in two years at the Safdarjung weather station.
Many roads and busy crossings filled with water.
Cars, buses and motorcycles moved slowly through the flooded areas.
Some people helped pull vehicles through the water.
The city also received complaints about fallen trees and waterlogged locations.
Rain was expected to ease during Tuesday night.
Wednesday morning could be mostly dry, but heavier rain may return later in the day.
Delhi’s air quality was in the moderate category.
Safdarjung recorded 99.1 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending 8:30 am Tuesday, Delhi’s highest August total in two years.
Several stations recorded more than 100 mm, including Delhi University at 104.0 mm, Ayanagar at 101.9 mm and Ridge at 100.4 mm.
Waterlogging affected central Delhi, including Ashoka Road, Parliament Street, Connaught Place, the Supreme Court area and AIIMS.
Traffic slowed on major routes including ITO, Vikas Marg, Laxmi Nagar, Karol Bagh, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and the Pragati Maidan tunnel.
Officials forecast a relatively dry Wednesday morning followed by moderate to heavy rain, with isolated very heavy showers later in the day.
