Karnataka Funds Rural Water Repairs, Passes Panchayat Regulation Bill
Karnataka has many drinking water units in rural areas.
Some of these units are not working or need repairs.
The government will provide Rs 3,000 for repairing each non-functional unit.
Gram Panchayats will first use their own available money.
If they do not have enough, the department will provide financial help.
The government has already released Rs 13 crore from a larger repair budget.
The Assembly also passed a Bill to stop unplanned and unauthorised layouts in villages.
The Bill lets Gram Panchayats tax certain older properties to raise more money.
Karnataka will provide Rs 3,000 to repair each non-functional rural pure drinking water unit.
Of 20,340 drinking water units statewide, 17,208 are operational, 602 have stopped functioning and 2,530 require repairs.
The government has allocated Rs 29.50 crore for water-unit restoration, with Rs 13 crore already released.
The Karnataka Assembly passed a Bill to curb unplanned and unauthorised layouts within Gram Panchayat limits.
The Bill allows Panchayats to collect property tax on properties built before April 7, 2025, to strengthen local revenue.
