Delhi PWD to redevelop 3 government residential colonies as high-rises
The Delhi government wants to build new tall apartment buildings for government workers.
Three old housing areas will be torn down and rebuilt.
These areas are Gulabi Bagh, Bahapur, and Kalyanwas.
The new buildings will be near train and metro lines so people can travel easily.
Some of the new apartments will be used for businesses to help pay for the construction.
The money will also help build a new Delhi Secretariat building.
The first work will start in Bahapur in South Delhi.
About 160 new flats will be built there.
The project will cost around 400 crore rupees.
This is all part of a plan called Transit-Oriented Development.
The Delhi government plans to redevelop three residential colonies—Gulabi Bagh, Bahapur, and Kalyanwas—as high-rise towers for officials.
PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said existing flats will be demolished and rebuilt under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) policy.
At least 10% of the flats will be offered for commercial purposes to recover redevelopment costs.
The Bahapur project, costing around Rs 400 crore, will build about 160 Type V and Type VI flats and go before the Expenditure Finance Committee.
Revenue from the projects will help finance the new Delhi Secretariat complex at ITO, with work beginning in Bahapur, South Delhi.
