Delhi Notifies 2047 Master Plan Opening City to High-Rise Development

Delhi has approved a new plan for how the city should grow until 2047.

The plan expects Delhi’s population to rise from about 2.2 crore to 3.2 crore.

It allows taller buildings in most parts of the city.

More homes and shops can be built near Metro stations and other public transport.

Officials estimate that about 40 lakh affordable homes could be developed.

Land pooling and redevelopment of older or unauthorised areas will also create housing.

Private developers will have a larger role in building and rebuilding parts of Delhi.

The plan also makes it easier to use land for offices, data centres, cloud kitchens and co-working spaces.

Unauthorised-colony redevelopment: Redevelopment in unauthorised colonies is expected to provide around seven lakh homes, with an FAR of 350.
Land-use categories: The plan reduces land-use categories from 133 to 45.
