Single-tower Delhi Secretariat at ITO; Income Tax Office to move
The Delhi government makes rules for the city and helps people who live there.
The people who lead the government work in a special building called the Secretariat.
Right now, that building is old and, the government wants a new, modern one.
The new building will be built in a part of Delhi called ITO.
It will be one tall tower built on about 10 acres of land.
Some other government offices, like the Income Tax Office, are on that land now.
They will be torn down and rebuilt elsewhere.
The Income Tax Office will move to a new spot across the road.
The plan has been sent to the Central government for approval.
The Delhi government revised its plan for a new Secretariat at ITO, proposing a single-tower complex on around 10 acres occupied by the Income Tax Office and Vikas Bhawan.
The earlier twin-tower proposal was dropped in favour of a high-tech single-tower Secretariat, PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh said.
The Income Tax Office will be shifted across the road to the site of the existing PWD building.
The plan involves demolishing and redeveloping the Income Tax Office, MSO Building and nearby area, with a request already sent to the Centre.
The current Secretariat operates from the Players Building near Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium, housing the chief minister, Cabinet colleagues and top bureaucrats.
