DDA Approves Redevelopment Policy For Old Two-Storey Delhi Homes
The Delhi Development Authority, which helps plan the city of Delhi in India, made some big decisions.
For a long time, people who owned old two-storey houses built by the DDA could not easily tear them down and build new ones.
That is because there were rules for empty plots but no clear rules for these old houses.
The DDA has now made one set of rules so owners of these old houses can rebuild them.
This is good news for people living in old neighbourhoods like Naraina Vihar.
But there are still safety rules to follow, like how tall buildings can be and fire safety.
The DDA also approved a big city plan for Delhi until 2047.
They approved new Metro train areas and other projects too.
These are steps to make Delhi a better and safer place in the future.
DDA approved a uniform policy allowing owners of old DDA-built two-storey homes on individual plots to demolish and rebuild them.
The policy benefits older DDA housing schemes like Naraina Vihar, where many homes built over 50 years ago are structurally deficient.
Rebuilding will still require compliance with FAR, ground coverage, height limits, structural safety, fire-safety and Unified Building Bye-Laws.
DDA also approved the Master Plan for Delhi-2047, which now goes to the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for final approval.
Other decisions included simplifying building approvals, a Rithala-Kundli Metro depot land-use change and a Gazipur waste-to-energy plant.
