LPG, CNG, PNG Rates: India Plans US-Based Imports by 2027
Many people in India use gas for cooking, cars and heating.
LPG is the gas that comes in round cylinders for cooking.
CNG is the gas used to power cars and buses.
PNG flows through pipes straight into homes.
On August 7, a cooking gas cylinder cost between about ₹939 and ₹994 depending on the city.
The price is different in every city in India.
India buys most of this gas from the Middle East.
There is tension between the United States and Iran in that region right now.
To be safe, India plans to buy more gas from the United States by 2027.
Many people are also switching from cylinders to piped gas, so LPG sales have dropped by 17.4 per cent.
On August 7, a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder ranged from ₹939.50 in Noida to ₹994 in Hyderabad, with Delhi at ₹942.
CNG prices spanned from ₹83.09 per kg in Delhi to ₹109 per kg in Hyderabad, while PNG cost between ₹48.40 and ₹54.70 per SCM.
India plans to source up to a quarter of its LPG imports from the United States by 2027 to reduce dependence on the Middle East.
India sourced about 90 per cent of its 21.85 million metric tonnes of LPG imports from the Middle East in 2025, with imports covering about 66 per cent of consumption.
LPG sales in India fell 17.4 per cent to 2.37 million tonnes, mainly due to a shift to piped natural gas after the West Asia crisis.
