Nearly 41% of Hyderabad Voters Missing from Draft Electoral Rolls

In a big Indian city called Hyderabad, almost half of the voters may not appear on a new voters' list.

That list, called the draft electoral roll, will be published on August 17.

Some of the missing voters moved to other places, some passed away, and some were signed up more than once.

Many missing voters chose to keep their vote in their hometowns instead of moving it to Hyderabad.

They were worried they would lose helpful government programs, like free food, if they changed their voting place.

One watchman said he wants to vote in Karnataka, his home state, so his family can keep getting free ration.

The area called Jubilee Hills has the most missing voters, followed by Yakutpura and Chandrayangutta.

These voters did not fill out new forms or contact their local election helpers, called Booth Level Officers.

The election office has already checked and digitised forms for about 59 out of every 100 voters.

The remaining voter forms will also be digitised.
