Himachal Rain Fury: One Dead, Over 300 Roads Shut
In a part of India called Himachal Pradesh, it has been raining very hard.
When hillsides get soaked with water, rocks and mud can slide down, and that is called a landslide.
Because of the rain and landslides, more than 300 roads were closed so that people could stay safe.
Sadly, one person died when a rock fell on a moving car, and two other people were hurt.
Some parked cars and two-wheelers were damaged by falling mud and rocks in Kullu and Shimla.
Schools and colleges in the Kullu area stayed closed because the heavy rain made it unsafe.
The weather office has warned that the rain may continue until August 18.
The rain has also damaged water pipes and electricity lines that people need.
Since the rainy season started on June 30, 70 people have died because of the rain in the state.
A total of 313 roads, 65 water supply schemes and 112 transformers were affected in Himachal Pradesh on Wednesday, according to the State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC).
One person was killed and two others injured when a rock fell from a hillside onto their moving car in Bhararighat area of Solan district on Tuesday.
Mandi was the worst-hit district with 117 blocked roads, followed by Chamba with 74, Kullu with 60, Shimla with 36 and Sirmaur with 13.
The weather department issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rains in Sirmaur district and a yellow alert for heavy rainfall in isolated areas till August 18; earlier alerts had predicted a wet spell till August 17.
Since the monsoon began on June 30, 70 people have died in rain-related incidents, including 14 in landslides, and the state has suffered losses amounting to Rs 910 crore.
